Our Story

What do you do when three musicians visit the same local café every day — and then find out it’s for sale? If you're us, you take a leap, buy it, and turn it into something uniquely your own.

Hopscotch has been a much-loved part of Wendouree for years, known for its friendly atmosphere, great coffee, and loyal regulars. When the opportunity came up to carry that legacy forward, we couldn’t resist. As three working musicians who bonded over flat whites, friendship, and the occasional jam session, we saw something more in the space — the chance to blend our passion for performance and community into a café that does more than just serve coffee.

Each of us brings something different to the table.

Amber is a degree-trained bagpiper (yes, really), a busy mum of two small kids, and runs largely on flat whites with almond milk. Her love of music, people, and a well-pulled espresso shot infuses the everyday magic of Hopscotch.

Sarah is a virtuoso of all things woodwind, a sound and recording expert, and a musical director extraordinaire. A proud mum of two grown kids and a cappuccino drinker, she brings depth, precision, and an incredible ear for artistry to the team.

Chris is a lifelong educator at heart, with a passion for helping the next generation find their voice through music. A master of strings with a gentle, encouraging approach, he’s spent much of his career teaching and mentoring young musicians — sparking confidence, creativity, and a love for the craft. A flat white drinker and steady presence in the Hopscotch team, Chris brings patience and purpose to everything we do.

Since taking over, we’ve made it our mission to turn Hopscotch into a true hub for local creativity. By day, it's your go-to spot for specialty coffee, fresh food, and a warm welcome. But look a little closer, and you’ll see the walls filled with rotating works by local artists and hear the soundcheck of musicians preparing for a weekend set. Every week, we showcase emerging talent and beloved local performers — giving artists a stage and the community a reason to gather.
